The subject of Rap Music is admittedly a trivial one but there are enough Americans annoyed and irritated by Rap Music that it made our trivia list.  Instant Survey, Inc. reports that 60% of all Americans rate Rap Music as “annoying” while 35% rate it as “irritating.”  Webster’s defines Rap Music as:

A rhythmic chanting, often in unison, of usually rhymed couplets to a musical accompaniment

The word “chanting” means “reciting in a monotonous, repetitive tone.”  Therefore, Rap Music can be more clearly defined as:

A rhythmic reciting in a monotonous, repetitive tone, often in unison, of usually rhymed couplets to a musical accompaniment

The key thing to take with you from this definition is the word “monotonous.”  Rap Music is monotonous.  That means that Rap Music is uninteresting, tedious, tiresome, wearisome, and boring.  Nielsen Media Research (of the famous Nielsen Ratings) reports that 80% of viewers change the channel when Rap Music starts blaring from their TV sets.  A Nielsen employee told us, “The number would be higher, 95%, but 15% of viewers run to the bathroom or kitchen instead of changing channels.”

Our conclusion:  RAP MUSIC IS NOT MUSIC!  Incidentally (by the way), this has always been our gut reaction to “Rap Not Music.”
